Taste Of Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf

A Philly’s cheesesteak-themed meatloaf with lots of whiz and provolone, not to mention sauteed onions, green peppers and mushrooms!

Meatloaf is one of my favorite comfort foods and it’s fun to change the flavors like in this one with a Philly cheesesteak theme! Philly cheesesteaks are sandwiches with sauteed beef and onions with melted Provolone cheese or whiz cheese and some common extras are sauteed green peppers and/or mushrooms. Meatloaf usually starts with their minced meat, beef in this matter, with eggs and breadcrumbs, which help to keep everything together, as well as spices. The spices for this meatloaf start with sauteed onions, green peppers and mushrooms, all finely diced so that they mix easily with minced meat. Then cheese whiz, Worcestershire sauce and ketchup are mixed in the meatloaf. The last component is the provolone cheese, which I like to include in two different ways! The first way is like a piece of solid cheese that is placed in the middle of the meatloaf, where it melts in the oven, always liquid, just waiting to pour when the bread is cut open! The second is that the slices are placed on top after the meatloaf has baked and roasted until it has melted over the entire top of the meatloaf! Yum!

Direction

Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat, add the onion, peppers and mushrooms and cook until tender, about 7 to 10 minutes.

Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about a minute before removing from heat.

Mix beef, salt, pepper, whiz cheese, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, eggs, breadcrumbs and cooked mixture of onions, peppers, mushrooms and garlic.

Put half of the mixture on a baking dish, put the solid pieces of provolone in the center, brush with the remaining beef mixture, seal the edges well and form the bread as you like.

Bake in a preheated 350F/180C oven until well cooked, about 50 to 60 minutes.

Spread the sliced provolone over the bread, put in the oven and roast until the cheese has melted, about 2 to 4 minutes.
